La
Vieille Maison Announces their first event marking the upcoming
Sesquicentennial (150th ) Anniversary of the American Civil War
Linda
Estupinan Snook, owner of La Vieille Maison des Livres in Mifflinburg will be
hosting a monthly book discussion revolving around the role of women in the
American Civil War. The club will be
limited to members who have a burning passion to discuss women’s roles and
contributions and social issues of the 1860s. The first meeting will take place on Saturday, February 6th
at 4:00 pm. Estupinan Snook believes
that women’s roles and contributions have long been overlooked in conjunction
with the Civil War and with the 150th anniversary being celebrated from 2011 to
2015 studying these contributions will greatly enhance the four year long
remembrance. Women to be discussed
include, but are not limited to, Mary Todd Lincoln, Varina Davis, Marie Brose
Tepe, Captain Sallie Tompkins and others suggested by the members. Come and learn how far we have come and how
long it took! Contact Linda at 570-966-5052. La Vieille Maison is located at
344 Chestnut Street in historic downtown Mifflinburg.
